Week Nine CIF Rankings: the Last One on Paper (or Pixels)

These are the final rankings of the 2011 CIF-SS Cross Country Season. From this point on, everything is sorted out by the teams racing head to head on the same dirt paths and giant hills (or flat pavement, if it rains) at Mt.SAC on Saturday, November 12.

Week Eight CIF Rankings: Just a Little Movement

Getting caught up, there was little local XC Invite action in week eight, with only last Friday’s Apache Invite attracting the SGV schools. But there were a number of early league finals, including the Camino Del Rey Association and the Prep League locally, plus County meets in other part of the Southern Section to . . . → Read More: Week Eight CIF Rankings: Just a Little Movement

SGV Girls Rankings II: Arcadia Out in Front

Again, this is why we run the races. Arcadia ran very well in the tough Mt.SAC Team Sweepstakes, turning in the SGV’s best performance of the weekend. Unlike the boys, where several ranked team’s stumbled on the famous 2.93-mile course, the girls teams all either surged forward or held their places. Also unlike the boys, . . . → Read More: SGV Girls Rankings II: Arcadia Out in Front

SGV Boys Rankings II: Damien & Don Bosco Move Up, Flintridge Prep Moves In

Arcadia holds the top spot in our second ranking of the 2011 season for San Gabriel Valley Cross Country. All of the SGV’s top teams ran at last weekend’s Mt.SAC Invitational, and the results created quite a bit of movement in the rankings. While the Apaches are still on top, their team depth is now . . . → Read More: SGV Boys Rankings II: Damien & Don Bosco Move Up, Flintridge Prep Moves In

Week Seven CIF Rankings: Now We Know

Pomona Catholic at Mt.SAC

“Yeah, but let’s see how they do at Mt.SAC”.

That’s a frequent response to a team that runs well in it’s opening meets, especially if it’s been on a flat course. But now that almost everyone has run at Mt.SAC, we know.

The rankings of three boys teams, California, . . . → Read More: Week Seven CIF Rankings: Now We Know

SGV at Mt.SAC – Combined & Adjusted

The SGV ran very well at last weekend’s Mt.SAC Invitational. The Arcadia boys and girls were the top teams, and the Apache’s Sergio Gonzalez and Veronica Yamane were the top local athletes on a weekend that saw nine girls break 19:00 and seventeen boys go under 16:00 despite the heat on Friday and Saturday afternoons. . . . → Read More: SGV at Mt.SAC – Combined & Adjusted

SGV Girls Team Rankings: Bonita by a Bit

This is why we run the races. Arcadia came out blazing, running an amazing 89:20 at Woodbridge, outpacing SGV rivals Bonita by nearly four minutes. But a month later on the hills of Mt.SAC at Saturday’s SGV One on One Challenge, the Bearcats had turned the tables and bested the now short-handed Apache’s by 30 . . . → Read More: SGV Girls Team Rankings: Bonita by a Bit

Week Six Rankings: This One Counts!

In the early weeks of the season, the rankings are mostly just for fun. September is a long time from November, and Woodbridge is not Mt. SAC. But beginning this week, the CIF – Southern Section rankings take on a real importance. Any team ranked in the top 13 twice in the last four weeks . . . → Read More: Week Six Rankings: This One Counts!

SGV Boys Team Rankings: Arcadia Still #1 in the SGV

Rankings in Cross Country are notoriously difficult. Teams run on flat courses and hilly courses, and in different weather, so that even schools running on the same course on the same day, as will probably happen at Mt.SAC this Saturday, can face very different conditions.

That said, here’s our first attempt to rank the 70 . . . → Read More: SGV Boys Team Rankings: Arcadia Still #1 in the SGV

Week 5 Rankings: Arcadia No Longer #1, Mayfield & Flintridge Prep Move Up

The big news is that for the first time in over a year, the Arcadia boys are no longer ranked #1. There is really nothing that they did to lose their place, turning in an easy win and team CR at the Central Park Invite. It’s just that Div. I rival Rancho Cucamonga finally put . . . → Read More: Week 5 Rankings: Arcadia No Longer #1, Mayfield & Flintridge Prep Move Up
