Baseline: Glendora Girls Break Through

Tori Whitworth

The recent league realingnment process left Glendora adrift as the only SGV school in an otherwise IE Baseline League.  The Tartan girls announced their presence today by winning the first cluster meet run over a tough three mile course at Glen Helen Park.  Glendora tallied 39 points to beat CIF Div. I Rancho Cucamonga, 2nd with 68 points.  GHS’s number one was soph Emily Hoey, 3rd overall.  The leaders were together, and as two Rancho girls broke away, Emily was left in space ahead of the fourth runner.  She fought well to hold her space to the end, but so did here teammates.  Glendora was second at the two mile mark, but frosh Micaela Lamb and sophs Chloe Arriaga, & Tori Whitworth moved up well to finish 7, 8, 9 and Cori Harral closed it out in 12th.

The CIF Div. II #5 boys ran into Rancho Cucamonga’s buzz saw, as the CIF Div. 1 #2 dropped a perfect 15 on the field.  There was lead pack of about 15 into the second mile, and as Rancho moved off the front, Glendora’s scorers moved up to finish 8, 9, 10, 11, 13 with just a 14 second gap.  Senior Aaron Forburger (16:21) and junior Ryan Sanchez (16:22) led the Tartans.
