Week 4 Wrap Up: Cwik and La Cañada Continue Their Rise

As we mentioned in the preview of this week, the SAT’s and the spot on the calendar, after the first set of cluster meets and just before the second cluster meets and the big meets next weekend, led many teams to compete with limited or incomplete squads.  But that did nothing to diminish the many strong performances turned in this week.

Anahi Betart (Walnut) continued her fine freshman year with a win at the Top Speed Super XC Classic at Bonelli Park.  Claremont (girls) and South Hills (boys) were the team winners.  Senior Bobby Villagomez (Los Altos) fourth overall, and junior Marissa Scott (Bonita) third, were the SGV’s top finishers at the fast and flat Warren/Stauffer Invite.  Junior Sonia Cwik led La Cañada to a divisional win (and a CIF ranking, more tomorrow) at the hilly Staub/Barnes Invitational in Crescenta Valley.

The Arcadia boys teams is both very good and very big – so even their second seven can be very strong.  Their “B” team proved this by finishing fourth behind three CIF ranked teams at the Brea Cross Country Invitational run over a somewhat slow, 5000 meter course at Carbon Canyon Park.  The Apaches were led by a 10th/17:33 finish from junior Jason Tsugawa, and their gap was an impressive 47 seconds. The girls from Baldwin Park and Ramona Convent also ran here and Wilson competed on the boys side.  Full Results

With so many athletes taking the week off, there will be no Top Performances List this week.
