Staub/Barnes: La Cañada Girls Make It Two for Two

The Staub/Barnes Invitation gives teams a nice preview of how they’ll do at Mt.SAC.  Times run on the hilly, 3-mile course at Crescenta Valley Park correlate well with the famous 2.93 track.

Many of the ranked local teams were resting athletes or had others taking the SAT, but it was (as of yet) unranked La Cañada girls who showed the best.  Led again by a win from junior Sonja Cwik (19:13) the Spartans were easy winners, for the second time in two weeks.  First in the D2 race with at 100:24, they were second best on the day to Div. I ranked Crescenta Valley.  Sonja was also second best overall. Veronica Yamane (So, Arcadia) was 5th/19:34 and Emily Hubert (Fr, Bishop Amat) showed she can handle hills by finishing 10th/19:49 overall.

Brendan Greene (Sr, La Canada) had the top SGV finish in the meet with 8th/17:13 in the D2 race.  Freddy Cerazo (Sr, Rosemead) was 4th/17:46 in the boys D3 race, and the Panthers won the team title (92:20).  Ranked Flintridge Prep, Pasadena Poly, and Flintridge Prep all took part with partial teams.
