Top Speed: Anahi, Claremont Girls & South Hills Boys are Best!

This meet featured a number of the SGV’s top teams, but almost none of them ran at full strength.  The SAT’s combined with coaches choosing to give their front runners the week off or to run them in the class divisions rather than the varsity race skewed the results.  The meet did offer a number of strong individual performances on this tough, somewhat slow 3-mile course at Bonelli Park in San Dimas.

The SGV’s Anahi Betart (Fr, Walnut) was 1st overall in 19:15, and the improving Claremont missing their usual #2 runner was the team winner.  Anahi was followed in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 6th places by the SGV’s Merin Arft (So, Claremont) 19:25, Alex Borunda (Sr, South Hills) 19:46, Melanie Deciga (So, Walnut) 19:52, and Katelyn Breitschwerdt (Fr, St. Lucy’s) 20:02.  South Hills’ Danielle Murrietta ran the final notable time, 20:14, in winning the frosh race.

Claremont junior Jimmy Baeskens turned in the top SGV boys performance with his excellent 16:14 for 3rd place.  Host South Hills took the boys team title led by junior Jason Diaz, 6th/16:17.  The SGV’s Kevin Mejia (Jr,Covina) 7th/16:22, James McCreary (Sr, Diamond Bar) 8th/16:28, Miles Sustayta (Sr, South Hills) 9th/16:33, and Diego Lopez (Jr, Arroyo) 10th/16:36 filled out the meet’s Top 10.

Daminen, Glendora, and Webb also took part in the meet.
