The Glendora boys are looking to take a big step forward from their outstanding 2009 season.  They return 5 of 7 (and the first four) from their State runner up, East SGV best and Sierra League and CIF Div. II championship team.

The Tartans will be led by senior Anthony Castro (15:18 – all PR’s are for MtSAC), Trib area XC Athlete of the Year.  Anthony was 7th at last year’s CIF finals, and 13th at the State Meet.  He followed this up with a strong track season (1:55.51, 4:16.1, 9:16.71), and was a CIF finalist at 3200m.  He will be joined up front by seniors Kelly Hernandez (15:40, & ’09 Sierra League Champ), Shin Yamamura (15:55), and junior Austin Mendoza (15:41), each of whom ran sub 4:29 and 9:50 last track season.

Junior Ross Brunett (18:44) looks to be the Tartans fifth man after finally shaking off two years of injuries in XC season.  He’s had a strong summer and is training well beyond his track PR’s of 4:44.13 and 10:24.78, running consistently with the top four.

The final varsity spots should be a dog fight among seniors Nick Orozco (17:02 and returning Varsity member), Christian Arranaga (18:38), juniors David Reber (17:27), Cameron Bullock (17:43) and Chris Vega (18:34), and newcomers Trevor Nelli, a senior track man in his first year of XC, Brandon Nelli, a junior moving over from swimming, and frosh Bryce Kasamoto – all of whom are looking to run in the low 16’s this year.

The girls will be led again by 2009 SGV Athlete of the Year Lauren Justus, whose summer training indicates she should make a big improvement over her area best 18:07 at Mt.SAC.  She’s joined by returning seniors Allison Mayo (20:25) and Maggie Su (22:08), both of whom had very strong summers.
These three are joined by a quartet of talented frosh who made up the balance of GHS’s Top 7 in their intersquad meet last week – Emily Hoey, who was 2nd in that race, Chole Arriaga, Taylor Butler, and Tori Whitworth

The Div. II Tartans move to the Baseline League this season, where they are projected to battle for the title against Div. 1 powers Rancho Cucamonga Los Osos, and Upland.  They open their season on September 11 at the Bronco Invitational at Prado Park in Chino, where the guys are defending champs
