Fastback: Taylor Hebb & Arroyo Sophs Lead

The famous XC course at MtSAC, home of the Invite and CIF Prelims and Finals, is ultimate destination of SoCal Cross Country.  And some teams can’t wait to get there, beginning their season at the Fastback Shootout, hosted by Arroyo, and contest over the first two hills to make a 1.91 mile course.  Damien, St. Lucy’s, and Azusa joined the hosts at this year’s event.

The top local effort came from St. Lucy’s senior Taylor Hebb, who was 3rd in the Small Schools Senior race at 12:24, and followed by teammate Marissa Horton (10th – 13:35).  Joining them with 10 Ten finishes were fellow Regent Gabriela Gavilanes – Jr (7th – 13:07) and Arroyo frosh Portida Tingsuk (6th – 13:31).  Azusa’s top girl was junior Shaina Pardo at 13:45.

The local boys were led by the Arroyo sophs, who have taken the next step after their fine freshman year, placing three in the top ten of the Small Schools soph race: Diego Lopez (5th – 10:36), Sam Garcia (7th – 10:48), and Andres Aparicio (8th – 10:54).  Other local top 10’s came from Knight Nick Cerecedes, 11:43 for 8th in the frosh race, and Azusa senior Kevin Ontiveros, 10:51 for 7th in the senior race.  Junior Tom Ebiner was the top Damien runner at 10:58, who were without top returner Jon Garcia, who was taking the ACT exam.
