Seniors Tim Corvese (Damien) and Emily Ye (South Pasadena) were the SGV’s top performers at the Friday portion of the 2015 Woodbridge Cross Country Classic, while two young teams led the SGV.  Woodbridge is run on a particularly fast and flat 3 mile course and this year attracted over 300 schools.
Corvese had an especially strong night, winning his heat. His time of 15:09.3, a nearly 40 second improvement from 2014, was the second fastest among all competitors on the night.  Ye made an even bigger jump to lead all SGV Girls, dropping over two minutes from her previous best with 18:32.6, and ranked 25th overall. South Pasadena junior Kieran Press-Reynolds was 22nd overall 15:38.2.
The South Pasadena boys team, making their debut here, were the top SGV team at 81:08.6, just edging out Damien’s 81:15.7. The teams ranked 11th & 12th overall, respectively, but more importantly 3rd & 4th among CIF Div. III schools.  And all of the Tigers scorers were underclassmen, so they can expect to develop a lot this season.
St. Lucy’s with an even younger team, were the top SGV Girls team at 98:19.0. The Regents, 19th overall, were led by soph Sabrina Lucio, 19:17.2/5th SGV, and their next five were three sophs and two frosh, so this once prominent program looks like they are on their way back.
Update: With the benefit of a merge of all divisions, South Pasadena turns out to be the top girls team on the night, edging out St. Lucy’s by 20 seconds.
