Pacific #1: Arcadia Doubles Up in Multi-Dual Format

Arcadia is one of three powers in the Pacific League, along with Burroughs (Burbank) and Crescenta Valley.  On the boys side, the Apaches are facing a strong challenge from Burroughs with CV just behind, while the girls were the clear favorites.

Racing on a hot Thursday on the fast, flat 3-mile course at Arcadia Park, Arcadia came out on top twice. Using a multi-dual format, in which the all of the teams run in one race but then the results are used to score dual meets between all of the participants, the boys were 7-0, edging Crescenta Valley 26-29, and beating Burroughs by a larger margin.

Arcadia was led by the seasonal debut of defending State Champ Phillip Rocha, who was the overall winner in 14:59.06.  Unfortunately, the Apaches have lost their strong projected #2 Dominic Gonzales, who had transferred from Walnut last winter only to return last week.  Nevertheless, they placed three more in a tightly bunched Top Ten: Chris Lee 4th/15:13.88, Tony Segura 8th/15:20.46 and Joseph Vasquez 9th/15:23.50

Arcadia was also helped by Burroughs holding out a few top runners, so the next cluster and finals should be a strong three-way race.

The Girls race was not expected to be as contested, and even with the Sweeps race at Stanford less than 48 hours away, Arcadia were the easy winners. Conceding the top places, they put their five in the first nine while running mostly together: Holly Lung 3rd/18:02.41, Jasmine He 4th/18:07.28, Kelly Liang 7th/18:18.72, Eryca Yamane 8th/18:33.72 and Joy Huang 9th/18:35.47
