Montview #2: Baldwin Park Makes it Two for Two

Boys Winner Adolfo Velasquez

Boys Winner Adolfo Velasquez

The Montview League’s second cluster meet was held Wednesday on the tough, hilly 3-mile course at Schabarum Park.

Nothing changed at the top, as Baldwin Park were again the easy winners on the boys side, as were the girls with a bigger margin than the first meet.

Maria Hernandez (Sierra Vista) was the dominating winner of the girls race – her 19:59 putting a full minute on runner-up Leah Martinez (Azusa).  Both runners were better than the first meet, but nothing like the 2:21 improvement from Hannah Eubanks (Gladstone) as she moved from 11th in meet #1 to third with a 21:04 result.

The top two boys switched places from meet #1, as Adolfo Velasquez (Baldwin Park), with a really excellent 15:32 effort, pushed past previous winner Cesar Bermudez (Sierra Vista) at 15:53.

Here’s more (admittedly BP-centered) coverage from Baldwin Park Coach Cobe Guzman…

With the 2nd Montview League meet in the books, the teams from Baldwin Park wanted to continue showing their supremacy. Once again the boys and girls teams knew this meet would provide adjustments from the other teams and great effort from everyone. The lady Braves took control early, having 6 girls in the top dozen after mile 1. More of the same continued from there, and it remained that way till the end with Baldwin Park having all its scorers finish in the top 11. The girls were led by junior Katherine Lombard, who has been enjoying a breakout season and covered the hilly 3 mile course in 21:39 and taking 5 place overall. The boys team, who have been on an upward trajectory, continued showing their class. Led by senior Adolfo Velazquez, who won the race in 15:32, over the hilly 3 mile course. The boys had all 5 scorers in the top 6, and all 7 in the top 10. Completing another undefeated day. Both the boys and girls varsity teams have a commanding 10 and 0 record in league. With 2 more cluster meets left, including league finals, they are both looking forward to remain on top and finish another strong season.
