In the first Hacienda Cluster meet, the West Covina boys surprised favored Los Altos to win with a strong display of pack running, while the Walnut girls showed they had enough depth to lead at the lead level.

On Thursday’s second cluster meet, held on a rolling 3-mile course at Bonelli Park, the Walnut girls turned in an almost identical performance, easily winning with just 27 points. Â But on the boys side, even though West Covina improved their team time from 85:24 to 84:03, the could not answer Los Altos’ big surge from the first meet, with the Conqs winning 32-36.
