Nine local schools were among the 180 teams that ran is this huge, high quality meet. Woodbridge attracts teams from all of California and several other states. The meet is run over a super-fast, completely flat 3 mile course. The top local performance came from CIF-SS Div III 5th-ranked St. Lucy’s, the only locals competing in the prestigious Sweepstakes race in the evening. While they only finished 15th, most of the schools were from the larger divisions. The Regents outperformed all but one Div III school and reconfirmed their place in the top ten.
Junior Marissa Horton led the Regents with a strong 18:10 finish, and she was closely followed by the three Hebb sisters: Taylor (18:14), Katy (18:23) and Krystin (18:26). Their team time of 82:27 was well ahead of last year’s 85:11, but that was also run without team leader Horton.
The other area participants ran in the morning races, where Diamond Bar soph James McCreary (15:53) led teammates James Powell (SO – 15:58) and Alexander Harvey (JR – 15:59), a big step forward for the Bhramas. Unfortunately, their number 4 and 5 runners were more than minute back – they’ll have to close that gap to contend for a CIF spot from the Sierra League.
The top girls performance came from Bonita frosh Lexie Jackson at 18:50 in her debut. The Bearcat girls came into the meet sixth ranked in the CIF-SS Div. III, but Lexie’s teammates had a rough day.
